True immersion is born in the details

The scene is simple, two women each with a notebook, and a man with a vision, that’s where this all started for me.

​We had the week before played Kalewala: Tale of Sampo for the first time at our games club, and one comment had lead to another and we suggested collaborating on a short promo video for the game. We all hurried to the cafe on our bikes, ordered tea while we chatted loosely about our day.
The two notebooks quickly got brought out from the bags as we started our meeting, with a nervous smile and a raise of our teacups as if joining in on a silent cheer.

Our first scribbles stated that we had imagined making two small videos lasting no more than 3 minutes. Something that would be pleasing and easy to consume.

“True immersion is born in the details,” she said.

The second cup of tea was filled, after all, one can’t say no to free refills. It was during this cup that the idea of making our own song was born. A phone was produced from a bag and a name brought up.
He would become our Vainamoinen, the man had silver streaks in his beard, a singing voice that would carry far over rivers.
A second name quickly followed, and from there on the mill kept churning.

If I had to point out a single moment in time that was a key factor to the grandness of this project it might have been this one.

We left the meeting having given each person a set of tasks to complete, each with a role to fill for the project; screenwriter for Tuomas Mansikka, prop master for Kaisa Tuulenkari, and costume designer for Dina Ramse.
